Users will soon be able to modify their tweets on Twitter. This long-awaited feature was initially misinterpreted as an April Fool's joke, but the business later clarified that it is indeed coming. We now have additional details on how modifying tweets will operate.

Twitter is working on a timer for while you're changing a tweet, according to developer and app researcher Nima Owji, and it will display when you're editing it.

It's unclear whether users will have 30 minutes to amend a tweet or whether this is merely a placeholder until the actual launch. Other platforms employ a different strategy. Any post on Facebook can be changed without issue, albeit a "modified" mark will appear. Instagram, on the other hand, does not display when you, for example, alter a caption.

You won't be able to like, retweet, or reply to the original version of an altered tweet, according to Owji's findings. Since a result, it will seem nearly like a deleted tweet, as you will only be able to engage with the most recent version of that tweet.

Even with the addition of the Edit Tweet tool, she claims that tweets will stay "unchanged." Wong says that, rather than changing the original tweet, the platform would produce a new one with a different ID, based on her findings. Twitter will also save a copy of the original tweet, as well as any earlier adjustments made by the user.

Finally, 9to5Mac has previously seen a glimpse of the edit tweet UI. Furthermore, it's worth noting that, for the time being, the ability to modify tweets appears to be limited to Twitter Blue subscribers.
